KēlaHealth's Statement On Racism

Written by KēlaHealth | Jun 3, 2020 9:24:00 PM

The recent racial atrocities including the murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, among numerous others whose names will not be forgotten, fall in a long history of racial injustice in this country. The KēlaHealth family feels the anger, pain, and heartache with and for our fellow Black Americans. We do not tolerate racism, hatred, or prejudice and we stand with our Black colleagues, friends, clinicians, patients, and communities in grief and in protest.

A second racially-biased fire continues to sweep our nation - the pandemic. This, too, has disproportionately devastated Black communities. NPR reported that “nationally, African-American deaths from COVID-19 are nearly two times greater than would be expected based on their share of the population. In four states, the rate is three or more times greater.”  As leaders in healthcare, we must find direct and targeted solutions to counter the systemic racism that institutes this discrepancy in the care of our Black patients. Black Lives Matter.

Though we may not have all of the solutions, we are committed to listening, acting, and supporting a movement toward a more just and peaceful society.

KēlaHealth’s mission is to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to enable and empower today’s healthcare professionals to best serve every individual based on their unique needs.

Small but specific KēlaHealth contributions in this cause will include:

  1. Continuing to stay committed in finding the best and brightest talent to join our mission not “regardless of” color and background but for the inclusion of color and diverse backgrounds. (Below is a statement posted at the end of every job description for potential employees.)

  2. Continuing to stay committed to study racial bias in healthcare data through the course of our work and product development, and pioneering how AI can help every patient.

DIVERSITY

Our commitment to diversity is a commitment to our belief that diversity is part of the essential DNA from which our company is built. Our success is dependent on building a team that includes people from different backgrounds and experiences who can challenge each other's assumptions with fresh perspectives. To that end, we look for and welcome a diverse pool of applicants including those from historically underrepresented groups — women, people with disabilities, people of color, people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or gender nonconforming, first and second generation immigrants, veterans, and people from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
